Your birth, your way
I’d love to be on this journey with you
Welcome to my website and huge congratulations on your pregnancy!
I offer tailored one-to-one support to future parents through pregnancy and birth and also am very invested in helping breastfeeding to get off to the best possible start. I speak English and French and serve Brussels, Leuven and surrounding municipalities and all of my consultations are in the comfort of your own home so please don’t be put off by the fact that I am in Kraainem!
I know how daunting it can feel when you discover that you are pregnant, especially if you are living in a country that is not your own. I have a long experience of supporting expat families and have accompanied births in many of the Brussels hospitals and also UZ Leuven. I can help you to better understand the system here and explore your options.
My focus throughout our relationship is on your needs. I am here to complement the work of your healthcare givers, and to keep you and your birth partner feeling safe, loved and calm. I will listen to your wishes and always be guided by your preferences, for example where some women wish for a totally unmedicated birth, others would like to have an epidural, others somewhere in-between. I will help you to understand your options and can point you towards evidence-based resources, so you can stay informed and empowered throughout your pregnancy and birth and beyond. My approach blends evidence-based knowledge with a deep respect for each person/couple’s unique needs and preferences.
I offer my birth doula and breastfeeding preparation and support services to couples and single mothers by choice - often starting my support in the third trimester of pregnancy though sometimes much earlier. In the weeks leading up to your birth we get to know each other and by the time the big day arrives, it feels like we are a team - ready to work together to bring your baby into the world in the calmest way possible. Many of my clients have been English or French speaking expats with no family living close by and it has made a huge difference to them to have built up a relationship with me prior to giving birth and to have a trusted person by their side who almost feels like family.
‘We had such a wonderful experience with Jane as our doula! Our hypnobirthing instructor recommended her, and after a discovery call, we instantly felt a connection. Jane tailored her support to what we already knew from our prenatal courses and helped fill in the gaps with kindness, clarity, and great resources. She was incredibly supportive throughout pregnancy - always checking in, answering questions, and sending useful links - and that support continued well after our baby was born. During labour, Jane was calm, present, and respectful of our space. She helped manage communication with hospital staff, supported our birth plan, and even translated into French when needed. Afterwards, she created a beautiful birth story for us to keep. Her presence made all the difference. We’re so grateful and highly recommend her to anyone looking for knowledgeable and truly compassionate birth support’.
Doula (du-la) noun
The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek δούλα meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced non-medical professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth. People who have doula support often report having a more positive childbirth experience with higher chance of a normal vaginal birth and fewer interventions. Additionally, evidence suggests that continuous support can shorten time spent in labour.
